People ask me why massage is so important.. to help you understand from a therapists point of view here is what I say…

Why stress causes tension in your shoulders …

Muscular tension resulting mainly from mental stress, usually becomes evident first of all along the trapezius muscle and the adjacent muscles at the back of the neck. The symptomatic pain usually starts as inescapable dull ache which becomes more intense as the muscles tire. The ache often spreads to include the head, neck, shoulders and much of the back.

Over a period of time, skeletal mobility becomes limited, due to the tense muscles being unable to stretch sufficiently when the antagonists contract. As a result of this, the tense muscles lose their elasticity, so they painfully resist almost every attempt at bodily movement in which the skeletal muscles are involved.

To restore a muscle’s elasticity, massage is needed to relax the muscles, in time bringing back movement in the body
